Привіт! Today you move from one familiar object to many familiar objects. Ukrainian does not use one universal plural ending, so the safest A1 habit is to learn pairs: стіл - столи, книга - книги, вікно - вікна.

The encouraging part is that plural adjectives are simpler than singular adjectives. In singular you matched gender: великий стіл, велика книга, велике вікно. In plural, all three become великі.

By the end, you can:

• form useful nominative plural phrases for classroom things;
• recognize three common plural shapes: -и, -і, -а / -я;
• use plural adjectives ending in -і;
• describe groups with ці, ті, мої, and які.

The classroom is getting ready for a Ukrainian lesson. The teacher points to one item first, then the students name many.

Вчитель: Це один стілець. А тут?
Учні: Тут стільці.
Вчитель: Це одна дошка. А тут?
Учні: Тут дошки.
Вчитель: Це одне крісло. А тут?
Учні: Тут крісла.
Вчитель: Добре. Тут є олівці, ручки, підручники і карти.

Notice four small plural helpers:

When a noun is plural, the singular gender choice goes quiet. You no longer need цей / ця / це, той / та / те, мій / моя / моє, or який / яка / яке. Use the plural forms: ці, ті, мої, які.

Start with nouns you already know. Learn the plural as part of the word, not as a guess.

This is the nominative plural, називний відмінок множини, in its safest A1 shape. You meet three common models:

• many nouns use -и: столи, книги, ручки, сумки;
• some nouns use -і: стільці, later учні;
• many neuter nouns ending in -о use -а: вікна, крісла, дзеркала.

You may also see the matching -я side later, especially with some neuter words ending in -е, for example місце - місця. For this module, keep -а active and treat -я as recognition.

Use a slow loop when you practice. Point to one object, say the singular, then point to more objects and say the plural. Keep the words short and ordinary: це стіл - це столи, це книга - це книги, це вікно - це вікна. Then do the same with classroom words: це стілець - це стільці, це ручка - це ручки, це зошит - це зошити. You are training your ear to hear the pair, not trying to calculate a rule under pressure.

You do not need to predict every plural. Keep the pair together and say it aloud: стіл - столи, книга - книги, вікно - вікна. If a new noun matters, learn both forms at the same time.

Plural adjectives are friendly. In singular, the adjective changes for gender:

In plural, use які? and the adjective ending -і.

The noun can come from any gender in singular. The plural adjective still uses -і:

• великий стіл -> великі столи
• нова книга -> нові книги
• чисте вікно -> чисті вікна
• синя ручка -> сині ручки
• жовта лампа -> жовті лампи

This protects you from a common English-speaker habit. English keeps the adjective unchanged: big table, big tables. Ukrainian changes the adjective: великий стіл, but великі столи. If your noun is plural, your adjective is plural too.

Now combine the helpers with plural adjectives:

Great: you can now describe groups without choosing masculine, feminine, or neuter adjective endings. The plural ending -і does the work.

Try one more supported pattern before you move on. Start with a plural noun, then add one adjective:

• столи -> великі столи
• книги -> нові книги
• вікна -> чисті вікна
• ручки -> сині ручки
• лампи -> жовті лампи

Now add a helper at the front: ці великі столи, ті нові книги, мої сині ручки, які чисті вікна? If the whole phrase is plural, every visible helper and adjective uses the plural shape too.

Now ask three plural questions:

• Які столи?
• Які ручки - червоні чи сині?
• Ці книги чи ті книги?
