Мій ранок

Прокидаюся, вмиваюся — зворотні дієслова та ранкова рутина

Уроки · Lesson 20 of 55Урок 20 з 55

Morning routines are a good place to learn Ukrainian verbs with -ся / -сь. Many of them describe an action that stays with the person who does it: я прокидаюся (I wake up), я вмиваюся (I wash up), я одягаюся (I get dressed). The ending before -ся still changes for the person. The small piece -ся does not replace the verb ending.

Діалоги

Read the first dialogue as a morning check-in between roommates. The lines are short on purpose: you are hearing the sequence of a normal morning.

Ліна: Коли ти прокидаєшся?
Настя: Я прокидаюся о сьомій.
Ліна: Що ти робиш потім?
Настя: Вмиваюся, одягаюся і снідаю.
Ліна: А коли ти йдеш на роботу?
Настя: О восьмій.

Ліна: А коли ти йдеш на роботу?Lina: And when do you go to work?
Настя: О восьмій.Nastia: At eight.

The second dialogue compares a workday morning and a Saturday morning.

Настя: У суботу я не поспішаю.
Настя: Прокидаюся пізно, лежу, дивлюся на телефон.
Ліна: А я навчаюся вранці.
Ліна: Потім гуляю.

Ліна: А я навчаюся вранці.Lina: And I study in the morning.
Ліна: Потім гуляю.Lina: Then I walk.

Notice the difference between a reflexive morning action and a regular action. Вмиваюся, одягаюся, навчаюся, and дивлюся end in -ся. Снідаю, лежу, гуляю, and йду do not. For this lesson, build the regular Group One reflexive forms first, and learn дивлюся на телефон as a ready phrase from the dialogue.

Дієслова на -ся

Build the form in two moves. First choose the normal present-tense ending. Then add -ся. Start from the Group One pattern you already know.

Додай -ся

You may see a shorter -сь after a vowel, especially in quick speech or informal writing: прокидаюся / прокидаюсь. For your own writing, use the full form -ся first. Recognize -сь, but keep your active pattern simple.

The pronunciation is not letter by letter. In ти прокидаєшся, the written ending -шся is pronounced like [с’

]: [прокидайес’
]
. In вона одягається, the written ending -ться is pronounced like [ц’
]
: [одягайец’
]
. Do not force the spelling into the sound. Write прокидаєшся and одягається. Say them smoothly.

Use -ся only when the verb needs it.

Reflexive routineRegular or object action
Я вмиваюся.Я вмиваю руки.
Я одягаюся.Я одягаю сорочку.
Я прокидаюся.Я снідаю.
Я навчаюся.Я йду на роботу.

Мій ранок

Now turn the verb forms into a small story. The sequence words are: спочатку (first), потім (then), після цього (after that), and нарешті (finally). These words let you keep the grammar simple and still sound organized.

Here is a safe model:

Спочатку я прокидаюся о сьомій. Потім вмиваюся і чищу зуби. Після цього одягаюся і снідаю. Нарешті я йду на роботу.

Порядок ранку

Add concrete morning words only when they help the story. Рушник is a towel. Мило is soap. Зубна паста is toothpaste. Сніданок is breakfast as a noun, while снідати is the action “to have breakfast.” Будильник is an alarm clock. Готовий means ready.

You can keep the story short:

У мене є рушник, мило і зубна паста. Я швидко вмиваюся. Потім снідаю. Нарешті я готовий і йду на роботу.

Три речення про ранок

The verb йти is irregular: я йду, ти йдеш, він / вона йде. Learn these as ready phrases for the end of the morning story: я йду на роботу, ти йдеш до школи, вона йде в університет.

Make your own four- or five-sentence version by changing only the time, place, and one object. Keep the verbs stable while you change details: о сьомій, о восьмій, вдома, до школи, на роботу, в університет. A good A1 answer can be direct: Спочатку я прокидаюся о восьмій. Потім вмиваюся. Після цього снідаю. Нарешті йду в університет.

📋 Підсумок

The active pattern is regular verb form plus -ся: я прокидаюся, ти прокидаєшся, він прокидається. The person ending still matters. Do not write я прокидаєшся or він прокидаюся.

For your own A1 story, keep the order simple:

  1. Спочатку я прокидаюся.
  2. Потім вмиваюся і одягаюся.
  3. Після цього снідаю.
  4. Нарешті йду на роботу / до школи / в університет.

Use this short repair table when you check your writing:

AvoidUseWhy
Я прокидаєшся.Я прокидаюся.я needs -юся
Він прокидаюся.Він прокидається.він needs -ється
Я снідаюся.Я снідаю.снідати does not take -ся here
Я вмиваюся руки.Я вмиваю руки. / Я вмиваюся.choose object action or routine action
[прокидайешся][прокидайес’
]
written -шся is not pronounced letter by letter
[одягайет’с’а][одягайец’
]
written -ться is pronounced [ц’

Do not explain these endings through any other language. Ukrainian has its own clear pattern: choose the Ukrainian verb form, add -ся / -сь, and pronounce the final cluster smoothly.
